(Hemamali) Anushka Wirasinha
(Hemamali) Anushka Wirasinha was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She
pursued her graduate studies at London School of
Economics and Political Science (University of
London) receiving her Bachelor of Science
(Economics) honors in 1994. She entered Harvard
University completing her post graduate studies in
1996 in Special Studies in Administration and
Management receiving the highest grade in her
class for Micro Computers and Information
Technology. She was invited to teach the course
immediately following her graduation becoming an
assisting lecturer in Micro Computers and
Information Technology in the autumn of 1996.
Her ardent
enthusiasm for writing resulted in a prolific
output of 10 books within 11 months which included
‘Spread the word around: MS Word’, ‘Computer
Tutor’, ‘Study Buddy’, ‘Cyber Ethics’, ‘Visually
Learn PC’, ‘On Your Marks Net Set Go! Surviving in
an e-world!’, ‘The Years of the Technomanogs
(Science Fiction), ‘Who Owns the Alphabet?’ and
‘Tinges’ published in Sri Lanka in 2001 and ‘Heart
Mended with Super Glue’ published by Universal
Publishers, USA. Another 10 publications followed
the next year including ‘Digital Art’, ‘Office
Essentials: MS XP’, ‘PC Private Eye’, ‘Doctor PC’,
‘I want to teach the world to CLICK!’ (Computing
for the blind), ‘Java Essence’ ‘Flash in a Flash:
Web Development’, ‘Moments’ and ‘Zangots’(Science
Fiction) published in Sri Lanka and ‘Model
Citizen’ published by Xilbris, USA.
Her writings
gained her a prominent spot in Sri Lankan history
as she became the first Sri Lankan in the country
to author a series of computer books written in
English and the first Sri Lankan to put forth such
a varied combination of Computer titles. She
marked her place as the originator of Computer
book authoring in English in her country and in
2001 her Prentice Hall of India re-published works
‘Visually Learn PC’ and ‘On Your Marks…Net…Set…Go!
Surviving in an e-world!’ hit the India Times
bestseller list making her a bestselling author in
India at the start of her career. Since then her
books have made their way to reference libraries
of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT),
Cochin, India and as annotated listings in Finance
India and endorsed and accepted by the Education
Ministry of Sri Lanka for use in schools,
educational institutions and libraries throughout
Sri Lanka.
In 2003 she was
inducted to Sigma Xi the honor society for
research scientists (Harvard Chapter).
She is a member of
the Harvard Faculty Club, Phi Delta Kappa (Harvard
Chapter) International professional association of
educators, American Association for Artificial
Intelligence, Association for Women in Computing,
Women in Technology International (WITI), IEEE

She has also gained
recognition for initiating and introducing Digital
Art to Schools in Sri Lanka which is now a
national exhibition and competition conducted by
the Anushka Wirasinha Computing and Digital Art
Foundation and for outlining a Cyber Law for Sri
Lanka in her publication ‘Cyber Ethics’.
Other than her
academic and literary achievements she has
received excellence awards for ‘Best Smile’,
‘Comedy Monologue’ and ‘Evening Makeup/Photogenic’
from the International Modeling and Talent
Association (IMTA), New York. Her other interests
include writing, Computers, Travel, Fashion,
Interior Design and Photography. She also enjoys
spending time with her best friend ‘Guiness’ her
Maltese pet dog.
