Jhemon Hom Lee, M.D.
Dr. Jhemon Lee is Vice Chair of
the Department of Radiology of Los Alamitos Medical Center in Los
Alamitos, California. He is also a radiologist at the MemRAD
Medical Group based in Long Beach, California. Dr. Lee attended
college at Harvard University from which he received his
bachelor's degree in Engineering Sciences (summa cum laude, Phi
Beta Kappa, 1990), and later obtained his medical degree from the
University of Maryland (cum laude, Alpha Omega Alpha, 1994). He
completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the University
of Chicago (1994-98), and a fellowship in abdominal imaging at
Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston (1998-99).
Dr. Lee is National Executive Vice President of the National
Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP). Previously,
he was NAAAP's National Chairman (1998-2000), Co-Chair of
Speakers and Workshops Committee (2000), and National Membership
Vice Chair (2001-2). From 1994 to 2000, Dr. Lee served NAAAP's
chapters in Chicago, Boston, and Los Angeles in various
capacities as president, vice-president, treasurer or as a board
member. He was also the Director of Professional Development of
the Los Angeles chapter (known as Asian Professional Exchange
(APEX)), and is still the Co-Chair of Healthcare Special Interest
Group of that organization. In addition, Dr. Lee is currently a
member of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the
American Medical Students Association (AMSA) and the Organization
of Chinese Americans (OCA).
Previously, Dr. Lee belonged to various professional and
community organizations, such as, the Leadership Center for Asian
Pacific Americans (LCA/LCAPA), the Asian American Physicians
Association (AAPA), the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the
United Asian American Organizations (Chicago), the American
College of Radiology (ACR), the American Medical Association
(AMA), and the American Association of Academic Chief Residents
in Radiology (A3CR2).
As a member and later as Chair of the Advisory Board of the Asian
Pacific American Medical Students Association (APAMSA), Dr. Lee
participated in many of the initial planning meetings that led to
the formation of the APAMSA. He has spoken at many of the APAMSA
national conventions, and coordinated annual Pre-Conference
Leadership Forums since they began at the 1998 APAMSA National
Convention.
Dr. Lee
co-authored two articles and five conference presentations on
radiology. He was the primary radiology editor of "Mosby's
Medical Surfari: A Guide to Exploring the Internet and Its Top
Healthcare Resources" (1996). He was a member of the Journal
Advisory Board of "The New Physician" magazine. In college he was
News Editor of "East Wind" magazine (the forerunner to the now
defunct "A." magazine), Editor-in-Chief of the "Concrete
Abstract" humor weekly, and Editor and Cover Artist of "Computers
at Harvard."
Dr. Lee is a recipient of numerous awards and honors.
He was listed in the "Guide to America's Top Radiologists"
(2003). He received the NAAAP National Lifetime Achievement Award
(2002), Fellow Teaching Award from Harvard Medical School
Teaching Program in Radiology (1999), NAAAP-Chicago Recognition
Award (1998) and the Chien-Tai Lu Award in 1996 for Outstanding
Clinical or Scientific Work in Angiography/Interventional
Radiology by the Department of Radiology, University of Chicago.
At University of Maryland Medical School, Dr. Lee was
a recipient of a Certificate of Special Recognition for
Achievement in Clinical Preventive Medicine (1994) and the
Abraham Lilienfeld Prize for Outstanding Performance in
Epidemiology and Biostatistics (1992). In college he received a
John Harvard Scholarship (1990), a Harvard College Scholarship
(1989) and the Detur Prize (1988).
A third generation Chinese American, Dr. Lee was born
in the South Bay area of San Francisco, but grew up in the
Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. Currently, he lives in Long
Beach, California.
