James Chi-Yan Ng
James Chi-Yan Ng is currently
entering his senior year at Scarsdale High School
(SHS). Despite attending one of America's most
rigorous public high schools, James has
distinguished himself academically numerous times.
He has been inducted into Signifer (The National
Honor Society), as well as the National Honor
Roll. Recently, he received a rare perfect score
on the U.S. History and Government New York State
Regents Test. James also won first prize in a
Charles Dickens Writing Contest.
James has served as both a reporter and
assistant editor of his school newspaper. He is
currently serving as an editor for the school
yearbook. James has also worked as a sports writer
for the local newspaper. Athletically, James has
served as the co-captain of the junior varsity
lacrosse team, and also earned a varsity letter in
the sport.
James became one of the few Asian Americans to
enter SHS student government when he was elected
Class House Representative and later Class
Vice-President in his junior and senior years. He
has also served as interned under Congresswoman
Nita Lowey. Furthering his academic interests,
James has taken courses in politics and law at
Columbia University and Yale University. He
attended Presidential Classroom in Washington,
D.C., which consisted of a week-long overview of
the American Government. James has also been
nominated to attend the National Student
Leadership Conference, and the National Youth
Leadership Forum.
Keeping in step with his Chinese-American
culture, James has been elected as the President
of the Young Organization of Chinese Americans of
Southern Westchester. This organization hopes to
bring together young Asian Americans in social and
cultural harmony. Last year, the organization
volunteered at the National Organization of
Chinese Americans Corporate Awards where prominent
local and national leaders were present.
Serving on Scarsdale's Volunteer Ambulance
Corps, James works as a trained and certified
first responder. He also works as a volunteer tour
guide in SHS administration office. In recognition
of his service, James has received two volunteer
service awards. As an accomplished pianist, James
has received various awards from New York State
Teacher's Association, and has consistently
attained superior scores in the National
Piano-Playing Auditions.
James has served well as a scholar, a musician,
a volunteer, and an athlete, and represents the
essence of the rising generation of Asian
Americans. James hopes to study English or
Political Science in college, and hopes for
careers as both a lawyer and public official.
