Madjid Tavana, Ph.D.

Madjid Tavana is a Professor of Management Information Systems and Decision Sciences and the Lindback Distinguished Chair of Information Systems at La Salle University where he served as Chairman of the Management Department for twelve years as well as the Director of the Center for Technology and Management and the Executive Director of the E-Commerce Institute. Dr. Tavana has been a faculty fellow in Aeronautics and Space Research at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for two summers developing a group decision support system for the Space Shuttle Program. He spent four summers at NASA's Johnson Space Center automating the station duty officer operations for the International Space Station, designing a decision support system for the human exploration of Mars, developing integrated spacecraft command and control systems for the next generation Mission Control Center, and developing a real-time intelligent decision support system for future manned spaceflight operations. He has also spent two summers at the Air Force Research Laboratory developing multi-criteria network-centric simulation models and systems. More recently, Dr. Tavana was selected as a Distinguished Faculty Fellow by the Office of Naval Research to work on the next generation of mission planning tools at the Naval Research Laboratory--Stennis Space Center. He was awarded the prestigious Space Act Award by NASA in 2005. He is also the recipient of a registered invention for his software analysis tool integrating data flow diagrams and Petri nets from NASA.
Dr. Tavana has been a Visiting Scholar at the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. He has also been a Visiting Professor at Universität Paderborn in Germany, Ecole Supérieure de Commerce Et Management in France, Lviv Institute of Management in Ukraine, Hansung University in Korea, Basel Business College in Switzerland, Universidad de las Américas and Universidad De La Salle in Mexico. He received his M.B.A. in Management Information Systems and Management Science from La Salle University and a Post-Master of Information Systems in Information Systems Design and Evaluation from Drexel University. Dr. Tavana completed his doctoral coursework in Systems Sciences at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania under Professor Russell Ackoff and received his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the American University in London. He has also received a Post-Doctoral Diploma in Strategic Decision Support Systems from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests are in Decision Support Systems, Multi-Criteria Decision Making, Decision Sciences, Systems Analysis and Design, Operations Research and Supply Chain Management.
Dr. Tavana has been a consultant to several corporations and agencies such as NASA, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, ITT Defense Communication Systems, Crown Cork and Seal, Prudential Securities, and Philadelphia Bar Association, among others. He is the Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Applied Decision Sciences published by Inderscience Publishing and the International Journal of Strategic Decision Sciences published by IGI Global Publishing. Dr. Tavana has published in journals such as Decision Sciences, Interfaces, Information Systems, Information & Management, Computers & Operations Research, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Omega, Advances in Engineering Software, Expert Systems with Applications, International Transactions in Operational Research, and Multi Criteria Decision Analysis, among others.
